Mock takes top-10 momentum to Road Atlanta
March 23, 2022
Darin Mock and the No. 51 AAN Adjusters Ford of Mike Cope Racing head to Road Atlanta looking to continue their upward momentum.
After starting 14th at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend, Mock raced his way to his first top-10 of 2022 in the Trans Am TA2 Class event. Adding to his looking forward to Atlanta, is the fact Mock is going to a track he actually has prior racing and championship experience.
“Road Atlanta is by far my favorite track,” Mock said. “I have more laps here than any other place we will race this year. I won the Spec Iron Championship there in 2021 with a last-lap pass and that was pretty special.
“So yeah, I’m carrying a lot of confidence into this weekend between our great finish last week and what we did last year at Road Atlanta. This TA2 Class is deep in talent and very competitive.
“My crew chief Mark Wilkins, Butch Miller and myself are really starting to work together better and better.”
Miller is a legendary and accomplished racer in his own right who was brought on board to help the 19-year-old Mock.
“He has been a tremendous help. I’m fortunate to have him and Mark as we look to improve each week,” Mock said. “Our goals for this week are to improve on our top-10 finish from last week, run in the top positions and have a solid day all around.
“It will start with qualifying and I will have to do my part to going for that good starting position. In the end, we’re hoping to keep the car in piece, have a great, solid and finish better than we did last week.
“Everyone on this crew is working hard to make that happen, and I’m confident we can achieve those goals. This can’t be done without help from people like AAN Adjusters, for sure.”
NOTE: Mock will be racing with a heavy heart this week. On Saturday, March 19, family friend Gavin Cox,22, passed after a fatal car accident in Huntersville. Mock will be racing in his honor at Road Atlanta.
