Hitt focused on VIR
September 25, 2014

(Team Release) Kerry Hitt racked up a solid top 5 finish at Lime Rock Park and is now focused on the twists and turns of iconic Virginia International Raceway.
Hitt entered round 9 of the 2014 Trans Am Series Championship fifth in points with three races remaining in the season. The Advanced Composite Products #16 Corvette was solid when unloaded for practice.. They qualified 6th and produced a workman like 5th place finish. He solidifies his 5th spot in the season standings and remains only 14 points behind Cliff Ebben for 4th spot.
“It was a good race. A good race all around.’, said Hitt after the race. “It’s a great track, but traffic was terrible. We had a little body contact with one of the TA2 cars in practice and bent the nose support and did some body damage, but it didn’t slow the car down. Tony(Ave) and Doug(Peterson talked the Chief Steward(James Foyle) during, the driver’s meeting about the traffic, the closing rates and the tight race track before and in the race all in all I think everybody did a good job.”
Hitt said that he was able to run his race and stick to his plan. “Constant lap times. Constant. It’s a rhythm track and once you find that rhythm you get comfortable and that is what we were looking for.”
Kerry also commented on the good racing in the class at Lime Rock. “Jim McAleese and I had a real good race. We got close enough to trade a little paint a couple of times, but that’s good racing.” Kerry and Jim are also racing in the points standings with McAleese and his #03 Corvette standing 6th. Heading into VIR Hitt holds a 16 point advantage.
Round 10 is the second to last race on the 2014 calender. It will mark only the second time Hitt has been to the classic race track and its been a while. “I’ve only been there one time. It was in the Rolex series in 2002, but we won. VIR is a blast, particularly the climbing esses.”, Hitt said,
VIR is a track that offers a little bit of everything. Long and fast straights, high speed and low speed corners, left and right turns and a good bit of both up and down hills. Built in the 1950’s VIR was designed like the classic European road courses of that era which makes it somewhat of a different animal today. It will be a good challenge for Hitt and the ACP Racing Team.
Qualifying for the race at VIR is Saturday September 27th with the race on Sunday September 28th. See GoTransAm.com for more details, schedule and live timing and scoring.
