Hight ready for Trans Am Debut

TEAM RELEASE - Ted Hight III the will make is Trans Am debut when the 50th Anniversary season visits Road Atlanta for round 2 on April 9th and 10th. Hight will race in class TA4 in a 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 sponsored by Bank of North Georgia.

Hight was born and raised in Detroit, MI where his father was a director at Ford Motor Company. He was also an SCCA road racer. That is where Ted got his first taste of sports car racing. “My dad was an SCCA racer. He drove those little MG Midgets and Sprites.” Said Hight.

Hight has relocated to the Atlanta area and he calls Road Atlanta his home track. It was a trip to the famed roller coaster race course in 2012 that got him to thinking about following his father’s footsteps into SCCA racing. “It was a family trip to see the July SCCA club race at Road Atlanta that tickled my interest,” Hight said. “Then I did the Skip Barber School and knew that I did want to race. That’s when I bought the Mustang.”

In 1969 and 1970 in the golden era of Trans Am racing Ford’s Boss 302 Mustangs became legendary in the hands of Parnelli Jones, George Follmer, Peter Revson and others. In 2012 and 2013 Ford returned the marque to the show room and the Boss 302 model built on the original legend. Hight built his race car from a street model to Touring One class specs and began racing.

Hight won the SCCA’s South Atlantic Road Racing Championship in T1 in 2014 and squeaked out a win in the SCCA’s 2015 Southeast Division Championship Series.

“Its funny. Watching the Trans Am Series at Road Atlanta’s American Road Race of Champions in 2013 put the bug in my mind that maybe I could race with that group one day,” said Hight. “After the 2014 season we put more thought into it and starting working on a plan.”

HIght gets his all important financial support from the Bank of North Georgia. “I’ve had a professional relationship with them for years and they sponsored me for the SCCA Majors Tour in 2015. I am excited that the Bank of North Georgia decided to stay on for 2016 and be part of this opportunity to race in a legendary pro series like Trans Am.”
