Four drivers brave the rain, head out for practice

The first official Trans Am action of the race weekend at legendary Road America was effectively put to a halt by storms, soaking the Elkhart Lake region. With winds and rain pounding the pavement, only four cars decided to take to the track.
Denny Lamers, Michael Wilson, Bob Stretch and teammate Tom Sheehan were the only participants in the session, which is an unofficial practice due to the weather. Lamers led the pack with a time of 3:08:20 in his McMahon Group/Stumpf Ford/Lamers Racing Ford Mustang. However, none of the cars were up to speed nor were the drivers pushing them.
Storms are still lingering in the area, but qualifying is still expected to be on schedule later this morning.
In other news, Alan Lewis has withdrawn from competition due to medical reasons while Greg Rodgers has withdrawn from the race as well. The Trans Am field will now consist of 26 cars, the largest of the year. The race will feature 12 TA cars, 12 TA2 Cars and two GGT cars.
The Trans Am field will take to the legendary course at 11:15 a.m. central time for qualifying and will race tomorrow morning, August 16, at 8:00 a.m. central time.
