FOAMETIX Trans Am 100 kicks off with practice

Gregg and Lawrence lead TA and TA2, Ellis and Snow split TA3
SEBRING, Fla. (February 27, 2015) – RESULTS UNOFFICIAL- The 2015 Trans Am Championship commenced in earnest today with the first practice session of the FOAMETIX Trans Am 100, Round 1 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship at Sebring International Raceway. All 73 event entrants participated in the session, beginning the year with more participants than in any other session in Trans Am history.
Simon Gregg, in the No. 59 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette, led all competitors with a 2:05.141 as the 2012 Trans Am Champion kicked off 2015 on a high note. Following Gregg was Amy Ruman, driving the No. 23 McNichols Company Chevrolet Corvette, with a 2:06.786 in second position, and two-time defending TA Champion Doug Peterson, in the No. 87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette, was third in the session with a 2:07.223. In fourth and fifth, respectively, were RJ Lopez, in the No. 16 Optica Lopez Chevrolet Corvette, and Paul Fix, in the No. 4 Stopflex.com/ClassicTube Chevrolet Corvette, with times of 2:07.441 and 2:08.060.
In TA2, two-time defending Champion Cameron Lawrence, in the No. 1 MOPAR Dodge Challenger, led the way with a 2:13.341, resuming the fine form of last season with relative ease. Following Lawrence in second position was Ron Keith, driver of the No. 25 OffsiteImageInc/Howe/Arboermaster Ford Mustang, with a time of 2:13.775, in third was Tony Buffomante, in the No. 34 Bestline Superior Lubricants Ford Mustang, with a 2:13.837. Rookies Joey McColm, in the No. 83 Bulk Nation/ CBRT Ford Mustang, and Lawrence Loshak, in the No. 5 Raybestos/ ETE Reman Ford Mustang were fourth and fifth with times of 2:15.365 and 2:15.528.
Russ Snow led the way for TA3 with a 2:17.137 from behind the wheel of the No. 20 Guardian Services, AiM Sports Chevrolet Corvette, also setting the fast time for the International Group in the act. David Mazyck was second in TA3 International with a 2:19.013 in the No. 71 Serpent Speed Dodge Viper while Lee Saunders, in the No. 84 Landsearch LLC Dodge Viper was third with a 2:19.472.
Thomas Ellis, in the No. 00 Palm Express/ Averitt/ Steeda Ford Mustang, edged defending TA3 American Muscle Champion Ernie Francis, Jr., in the No. 98 Breathless Racing Chevrolet Camaro, with a 2:19.924 over Francis’ 2:20.221. Chris DeSalvo, in the No. 61 Baucom Motorsports Ford Mustang, was third in the TA3 American Muscle with a time of 2:22.995.
Trans Am will return to the track at 3:30 p.m. ET for “Fast Five” qualifying as the FOAMETIX Trans Am 100 continues at Sebring International Raceway.
