ECC, Andretti, have sights set on 2016 TA2 Championship

TEAM RELEASE: ECC Motorsports is geared up and ready to launch another assault on the Trans Am Road Racing Series 2016 TA2 Class Championship with driver Adam Andretti. After second place finishes in the 2014 and 2015 championship competition, team owner A.J. Henriksen feels like his group is poised for taking that next step to the top of the season ending podium.

“It’s been so close the last two seasons. Both championships coming down to the last race. Last year it came down to the final two laps of the last race.” Says Henriksen. “One little thing falling your way or against you is what it came down to. We think if we keep that effort going forward we are in good shape to get that championship.”

In 2015 ECC Motorsports ran Andretti in TA2 in both the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro. For 2016 they are adding a Dodge Challenger to the mix. “It’s a proven package.” Said about the reason why his team has put a Challenger together. “We have played with the Challenger over the winter and like what we have seen. We have done a lot of development with the Camaros over the last couple of years and feel good about racing that, too.”

“We worked thru some parts and components that in 2014 and early in 2015 were creating some reliability problems and have fixed those things. The cars are reliable now. We also added some new personel near the end of last season that really helped things at the team level. The two things together created real momentum for us that we think will carry over to 2016.”
In addition to ECC’s TA2 program, again in 2016 the team will dabble in the TA class. “We have a Corvette and a Cadillac in the shop.” Henriksen said.

“Adam again is going to do the double at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.” In 2015 Andretti became the first driver to finish on the podium in two different Trans Am classes at the same event with a 3rd place finish in both the TA and the TA2 races.

Meanwhile Henriksen is taking to the track in TA himself. In the past Henriksen has fielded a team TA2 car with Andretti in about half of the races in a R & D role. He has also made a couple of starts in a TA class Corvette including a podium finish. This season A.J. will race in TA. “We are committed to run the first three or four races in TA and then Road America and Daytona. Depending on how things go its possible that we would fill in the rest of the schedule. It all depends.” Henriksen said.

Illinois based ECC has become one of the most consistently successful teams in the Trans Am Series. 2016 looks to be another exciting campaign on many different levels.

Adam Andretti and A.J. Henriksen return to the race track for the 50th Anniversary of Trans Am at Sebring International Raceway on Saturday March 5th, 2016.
