David Budres finishes 14th at The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix

The Competition One Racing team and David Budres took to the streets of Nashville this weekend to take on The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix and the rest of the Trans Am TA2 field. Budres finished 14th after qualifying and starting 21st in the field of 40 cars.

“Finishing the race and rolling the car back into the trailer was goal number 1” said Budres. “After a few mistakes in my earlier sessions, my guys had to do a good amount of fiberglass repair work. I was glad to move forward and get a decent finish. Finishing inside the top 15 is a big accomplishment for myself and our team considering the depth of top drivers and teams in this series. We’re creeping up on the big teams in front of us. If we can keep on rolling, a top 10 is right there in our grasp.”

The team had to rally Friday evening before qualifying Saturday morning after contact with the tire barrier meant some fiberglass body work to be done. “Everyone did an awesome job. I can’t thank the team enough for busting their tails to get the car ready” Budres continued, “The worst part was, I did it again in our qualifying session. I got my best lap of the weekend, then pushed too hard on my entry to turn 1. Stupid mistake on my part. We were much better than a P21 start.”

“I can’t thank everyone enough. Jay Shuler’s whole family came down and supported us. He brought Nortek Copperworks along with us and we couldn’t have made this trip if it wasn’t for him. Geoff and Jessica Bushor from Team Pelfrey and Peter Dempsey of Turn 3 Motorsport took time out of their busy schedules to help me. The team, Steve and Dana Stadel with Competition One, Ray, Scott and my dad all put in a huge amount of effort before and during the weekend to get us on track. Also, thanks to all
the friends and family that came and stopped by to say hi. This was an awesome event. I can’t wait to go back.”

“David has made great strides transitioning from formula cars and dirt Midgets to the bigger, heavier, higher horsepower TA2 cars” commented Steve Stadel of Competition One. “He drove a great race, kept his nose clean and got a well-deserved 14th.”

Now the team will look forward to adding a few more races to finish the season. With 3 races left on the TA2 schedule, they’d like to make one or two more. “After missing the start of the season, our main goal was to hit our home race at Road America and Nashville. Now after doing that, we’d like to do a couple more.” Stated Budres. “It’ll all come down to budget and funding. We’ll work hard here in the next few months to see if we can make it to COTA.”

You can watch the TA2 Big Machine Music City GrandPrix Saturday 8/13 at 6:30PM CT on CBS Sports Network, with an encore presentation at Midnight.
