Cameron Lawrence Maintains Early-Season Form, Grows Points Lead
May 23, 2013
Altamonte Springs, FL/May 23, 2013- Cameron Lawrence went north of the border this past weekend to take on the famed Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario for the first time in his career. Lawrence and his #11 Miller Racing Chevrolet Camaro went into the weekend with the TA2 Points lead in the 2013 Trans Am Series after a stellar start to the season at Sebring that saw him come away with the win after starting from Pole Position.
Lawrence knew the task would be much harder this past weekend as he also had to contend with an unfamiliar track as well as a very hungry and hard charging TA2 pack to contend with. It would prove all the training on iRacing to learn the circuit would pay off as Cameron finished the first official practice of the weekend in third position as he readied himself for the qualifying that would take place come Saturday afternoon. The #11 Ctek Camaro would be brought home in qualifying with a best time of 1:23.187, good for second place on the grid for Sunday’s race.
Starting in second, Lawrence had his sights clearly on the leader, and would battle the entire race nose-to-tail and side-by-side with the eventual winner in Tony Buffamante. Lawrence came home in second place by just over half a second from the leader, caution came out just as he was setting up a pass for the lead at the end. Cameron Lawrence would still finish with the fast race lap in the TA2 class with a time of 1:23.187, a mere two thousands of a second faster than his qualifying, and well ahead of the previous TA2 Track Record.
Of the weekend Lawrence had this to say: “The Miller Racing team worked hard all weekend on the set up, and we ended up with a great race car. It was a good hard race with Tony for the lead, and we thought we had something for him there in the end, but it didn’t work out after getting caught out by the late caution. I’m still very happy to come out of this weekend with the 2nd place on the podium and an extended point’s lead on the season! I would like to thank all the guys on the team for their excellent work this weekend.” Cameron Lawrence leads the 2013 Trans Am Series TA2 Drivers' Championship Point Standings by nine points over second place.
