Drissi enters the Sonoma SpeedTour ranked fifth in the TA championship through two rounds of the season
Tomy Drissi and Drissi Motorsports return to Trans Am presented by Pirelli action this weekend at Sonoma Raceway for the Sonoma SpeedTour, the third round of the 2025 Trans Am National Championship. Drissi, the 2009 Trans Am champion, and his #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro are poised to return to action in his home state of California for the first time since the 2022 season.
Drissi has a long and successful history behind the wheel at Sonoma Raceway. Three years ago, he finished second in the track’s most recent National Championship race; it was his fourth podium in a row that season, a run that propelled him to a second place finish in the championship. The track has also played host to all but one of Drissi’s career NASCAR Cup Series starts, including his career-best finish in the series in 2018.
That record should bode well for the Drissi Motorsports squad as the series prepares for back-to-back events in California over the next two weeks. Right now, Drissi sits fifth in TA points after a high-attrition start to the season has kept most of the field tightly packed. With a pair of home state events at Sonoma and Laguna Seca coming up and a proven record at both tracks, he looks to seize the opportunity to convert that experience into valuable championship points and gain ground on the lead.
“I’m thrilled that Trans Am is back in California this season,” said Drissi. “It’s always special to be able to compete in your home state, and from my first Trans Am win at Long Beach in 2000 to a podium in our last visit to Sonoma three years ago, I’ve had great results whenever I’ve raced closer to home. Sonoma is an amazing track that I’ve enjoyed racing at in everything from Trans Am to stock cars, and I'm looking forward to meeting all the great fans! This weekend is a great opportunity for us to run up front, and we plan on making the most of it.”
Action for the TA class kicks off on Friday with a pair of optional test sessions at 9:40AM and 3PM. On Saturday, practice and qualifying will take place at 9:25AM and 3:40PM respectively, while Sunday’s race of 40 laps or 75 minutes will go green at 10:35AM. Tickets remain available here, while live streaming will be available on both Speed Sport 1 and the Trans Am YouTube channel and live timing can be found at gotransam.com.
