Burtin Racing Puts Up Strong Fight at Road America
September 1, 2015
Elkhart Lake, WI – September 1, 2015 – It was an action packed weekend at Road America for The Next Dimension Trans Am 100, Round 8 of the record breaking 2015 Trans Am Series Championship season.
Burtin Racing entered the event with the No. 7 Bullet Liner Chevrolet Corvette sporting a distinctive custom livery as part of a two-race promotion for Bullet Liner truck and utility vehicle bed-liners. The Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin venue paired the Trans Am Series with the popular NASCAR Xfinity Series and spectators turned out in droves all weekend to watch the competition battle it out on the historic Road America road course.
With a tight Trans Am schedule from Mid-Ohio to Road America, the Burtin Racing crew was forced to setup with a back-up engine for the 3-Dimensional Services Next Dimension 100 race. This put the No. 7 Bullet Liner Corvette at a disadvantage on the long straights of the 4-mile course although with team strategy coming together, veteran pilot Claudio Burtin was able to secure a praiseworthy 13th place on the grid in qualifications of a field consisting of more than 64 cars.
A great start in the race quickly turned into problems for Burtin and after showing a strong effort, the No. 7 Bullet Liner Corvette was taken out from contact by another car striking the rear of the Corvette. Damage to the front clip and radiator put Burtin unable to continue on to finish the race.
“We started the race off okay and were able to pick up a few spots early on,” stated Claudio Burtin, team driver and principal. “There were so many yellows and incidents combined with us being down on power here this weekend – we just couldn’t get a jump on those restarts. When my radio went down with 10-minutes to go we hadn’t got the green yet and it caught me by surprise when the field started going. I got up to speed pretty quick and was heading into Turn 3 when I was struck hard from behind. My car went off and impacted the front and rear with the wall. Unfortunately our day was done early for the No. 7 Bullet Liner Corvette but the crew did an excellent job here all weekend.”
The Next Dimension 100, Round 8 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship, will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Next up for Burtin Racing the team will head to the legendary Daytona International Speedway for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Garmin VIRB set for September 21-27. A total of 28 National classes will take to the world-famous tri-oval and infield road course, which hosts the annual Rolex 24, to decide the 52nd class of Runoffs National Champions.
