Burtin Racing Motor City Race Report

Detroit, MI – June 7, 2016 - The team was back in black this weekend in Detroit, racing on the streets of Belle Isle with the Verizon IndyCar Series. With the Trans Am headliner returning for the first time in 15 years, the crowd turnout was astounding at the motor city venue. Starting with a solid eighth place qualifying position in the field, the first of two races was set to be a strong performance for the No. 7 GoShare C5. Unfortunately, an early race accident put the GoShare Corvette out of contention in Race 1 and the double-header round on Sunday. The damage was too severe for the team to make necessary repairs to continue in the weekend’s events.

“When we arrived on track in Detroit it was the first time the C5 Corvette turned a wheel in over a year,” said Claudio Burtin, team owner and principal. “We were battling a few issues along with the bumps on the Detroit street circuit. The car would not crank on it’s own so we had to push start for the race. I knew if I spun or stalled on track I wouldn’t be able to turn over the engine again. After the race went green I was able to get the car up to speed and started catching up to the lead battles until we received contact from the No. 44 car and had no place to go. The impact resulted in damage that kept us from finishing and unable to recover for Race 2 on Sunday.”

This race will not affect Burtin Racing’s position in points since this event was invitational and not a sanctioned points race for the season championship. Burtin Racing currently sits fourth place in the championship standings. The entire team has a positive mindset going into Round 4 at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend and will continue to strive for another podium finish.

Television coverage from Detroit will air on the CBS Sports Network on Saturday, July 2 at 12pm ET.

The GoShare Chevrolet Corvette C7.R will be back in action at the New Jersey event. Start time for the race is scheduled for Sunday, June 12 at 1:45 p.m. ET.
