Dyson Aims to Clinch Third-Straight Trans Am Title at VIR

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 3, 2023) – Coming off a win last month in St. Louis, a ninth-place finish is all Chris Dyson needs to secure his third consecutive Trans Am by Pirelli National Championship at the series’ penultimate round this weekend at Virginia International Raceway. That’s not the plan.
“Every time we roll the #16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang out of the hauler at the start of the weekend the goal is to win the pole and the race and be the fastest car.” Dyson said. “That’s exactly how we are approaching our race this weekend. The crew has the car running great and I’m totally focused. If the CD Racing team and I do our best, the championship will take care of itself.”
Dyson has performed well in previous Trans Am races at the southern Virginia circuit. The current track record holder, he’s won the pole three times in his six VIR Trans Am appearances and the race two years ago on his way to the first of his championships. Previously, Dyson also had the distinction of winning the inaugural VIR 500 endurance sportscar race as a rookie in 2002, co-driving with Andy Wallace.
“We’re facing a big TA field and a strong one,” Dyson said. “Justin Marks has been fast at every race he’s entered this year and I know he will be this weekend. We have a few other quick guys showing up for this weekend, too. VIR always tends to draw a strong field and it is really a 'drivers' track' in every sense, one of the fastest in North America. Tomy Drissi is my only remaining challenger for the championship. And he’s not going down without a fight. We are at the point in the season where everyone is going to leave nothing on the table. We are going to push each other hard as always. The Trans Am cars are simply spectacular around here. I'm really excited for the event."

Qualifying takes place Friday, October 6, 5:15 p.m. — 5:35 p.m. ET
The 100-mile race takes the green flag Saturday, October 7, at 11:40 a.m. ET
