Detroit, MICHIGAN – May 31, 2023 – When the Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 Series last competed in Detroit in 2019 at Belle Isle Park, New Hampshire’s Tom Sheehan and the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Damon Racing Ford Mustang team enjoyed a competitive doubleheader weekend. As the TA2 series prepares for its Motor City return, the sightlines and competition may seem familiar. However, the venue will be completely new to Tom and his on track rivals as the Series heads to the Detroit Street Course, a 1.7-mile, 10-turn street course with exciting new twists and turns.
Although the unpredictability factors may be a bit daunting to tackle, Tom and his diligent team are up to the challenge. Identifying the solutions is the hallmark of a successful team. “I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team. These guys spent their holiday away from home and families. We were at the shop Sunday morning and all day Monday getting ready for Detroit. We will be running our back up car, it’s nice to have a backup, we tore up the primary car pretty good at Lime Rock, The team needs a lift, we have to stay focused on our individual roles, and support each others in places we have been coming up short. Challenge wise we have some, we can get through and come out stronger, it’s what racing demands."
The latest iteration of the Detroit Street Course offers quite a few distinct left handers, particularly in Turns 1 and 2, a backstretch spanning 0.7 miles, and right hand corners with the snug but appropriate fit of LTK Insulation Technologies' products.
Tom and the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Damon Racing Ford Mustang team kick off their efforts with a practice session from 9:50 a.m. ET to 10:20 a.m. ET and the second practice session from 1 to 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 2. A 30-minute qualifying session kicks off at 8:15 a.m. ET followed by Race No. 1 of the weekend from 10:35 a.m. ET to 11:35 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 3. Then, Race No. 2 of the doubleheader gets the green flag approximately at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 4.
This year, Trans Am races are available for live streaming on Trans Am and SpeedTour’s YouTube channels with full playbacks immediately available after the race. Also, the races can be seen in edited, 60-minute features broadcasted on MAVTV’s Thursday night primetime slot at 8 p.m. ET.
