Francis prevails in shootout to win at VIR

Ernie Francis Jr. held off Boris Said and Chris Dyson in a two-lap shootout to win Saturday’s Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli race at VIRginia International Raceway.

Ken Thwaits took his third consecutive XGT victory of the season in an Audi; Lee Saunders led all the way for his fourth SGT victory in a Dodge Viper; and Billy Griffin scored his first career victory, driving a Ford Mustang in GT.

The four classes return to VIR on Sunday and will join the TA2 competitors in combined 100-mile race at 11:05 a.m. ET to complete the unique doubleheader.
