Coming off a podium at Brainerd, DMR looks to return to the top at RA

 

San Jose, CA (August 5, 2020) — The Diehl-Merrill Racing/ Mike Cope Racing team has been a forced to be reckoned with during the early stages of this crazy 2020 TA2 season. With near victory at the season opener, a hard fought win at Mid-Ohio and a P2 at Brainerd, Thomas Merrill and the DMR/MCR team have their sights set on nothing less than victory as the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli heads to the famous Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI for Round 4.  

The long haul to Brainerd, MN in July saw Thomas qualifying P2, taking over the top spot, and leading 10 laps, before surrendering the lead over to Mike Skeen who would take the “W” with Merrill coming home in a close second.

“The [Brainerd] race was great,” explained Merrill. “it was a learning experience on how long the car would last and how well the tires would do. I was happy to see the caution coming out and it put me back in striking distance, but Rafa and Scott made that more difficult than we planned. My Wilwood brakes came in handy [at BIR].

It is now Road America bound where the Trans Am Series joins forces with the NASCAR Xfinity Series Henry 180 race weekend to bring to you some of the best road course racing there is to offer. Merrill is ready to get back behind the wheel of his #81 HP Tuners/ CPS/ Mike Cope Racing Ford Mustang and take back the top spot on the podium.

The weekend kicks off with a TA2 test day on Thursday. Friday will include a pair of practice sessions followed by qualifying in the afternoon.
