Sheehan Plans To Attack At North America’s Greatest Track
September 4, 2019

Bow, NH - September 4, 2019 - There is arguably no finer place to be as summer turns to fall than upstate New York, and when you add in the high-octane thrill and wheel-to-wheel action that typifies Trans Am Racing, you have a memorable weekend in store. The setting for Round 10 of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli TA2 Class Championship is the historic Watkins Glen, where Emerson Fittipaldi, Graham Hill, Gilles Villeneuve and Niki Lauda are among the legendary names inscribed as winners of the Formula One United States Grand Prix at the American racetrack, so history and competition are very much woven into the fabric of the place.
When it comes to competition, there are few if any series as competitive as the TA2 class in Trans Am. No less than 28 cars will line up on the grid at 'The Glen' and poised among them is the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang driven by New Hampshire based Tom Sheehan. Tom has been competing in and around the top ten this season and the return to New England to race looks like being just the tonic the Damon Racing team are looking for this season.
Tom was clearly very much looking forward to the weekend when he spoke earlier in the week, "Watkins Glen for me is the greatest track in North America. The region is picturesque and September is a premier season for upstate New York. The circuit is fast, flowing and rewarding. Turn 1 at the Glen is a favorite. There is positive after positive. I could go on...I love this track!”
Tom drives a Ford Mustang built on the Mike Cope platform and is backed by the Damon Racing team. Together they have amassed 103 Championship points for the season to date and are hungry for more.
"The team has been talking about the Glen for weeks," stated Sheehan. "It’s familiar ground we have had some great results here in the past, but so far this year we are empty handed deep in the season, so we have nothing to lose. We are going to be on attack and see what it brings."
Testing starts unusually early for the TA2 drivers with an initial session scheduled for 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday. There is a second session early on Thursday morning with practice shoehorned into a 25 minute slot at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Qualifying is at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with the race itself, powered by AEM Infinity over 30 laps of the circuit, scheduled for 10:40 a.m. on Saturday.
