3Dimensional.com Driver Spotlight: Doug Peterson
February 20, 2014
Now a name thoroughly entrenched in the Trans Am paddock, Doug Peterson powered the #87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette to Trans Am’s highest honor in 2013 as he finished the year Trans Am Champion.
Peterson conducted a master class in the #87 car throughout 2013, winning six of ten races and finishing the year with 188 points, 50 points clear of runner-up Simon Gregg, and securing the third TA Championship in four years for Tony Ave Racing.
Even with the Championship in hand, during Round 10 at Daytona International Speedway, Peterson showed what Champions are made of, clinching victory on one of racing’s hallowed grounds, despite a massive 42-car entry.
Now Peterson has an opportunity to defend his crown, starting at Sebring International Raceway. But if anything about the future can be read from the past, it’s evident that Peterson is up to the task—and has an uncanny knack for season openers. He’s won the past two: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2012 and Sebring in 2013.
Completing the three-peat of Trans Am openers would only be an additional testimonial to Peterson’s success in the TA class and all of Trans Am—after all, he’s finished in the top five an impressive 17 times in his 23 starts.
And while the competition is sure to be greater this year, Peterson remains the Trans Am Champion, a title he is quite capable of retaining.
Peterson and the #87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette will take to the track at Sebring International Raceway on Sunday, March 2, 2014, for the 2014 Trans Am Season Opener: The Earwood Classic.
