Momentum Builds for Burtin and GoShare at Watkins Glen

TEAM RELEASE Watkins Glen, NY – May 18, 2016 - The Trans Am Series made a visit to Watkins Glen International this past weekend for the Classic Tube 100 . The historical event brought out a record car count of 76 entries, all eager to compete in the celebrated 50th anniversary year of Trans Am road racing in North America. Weather was a concern for teams and drivers starting Friday with the beginning of first practice.

The No. 7 GoShare Chevrolet Corvette C7.R was fast and made positive performance changes even with the limited track time that was allowed. This showed in qualifying where Claudio Burtin earned the seventh place spot on the grid for the race - proving the strength of the Burtin Racing team.

The feature race started under mixed weather conditions on Sunday afternoon. The team was set to make strides towards the front and Burtin had a thunderous start to chase the leaders down in the early laps of the race. It was a valiant push to fifth place for the GoShare Corvette and the team put themselves in position for a competitive race. It was not an easy task due to a lengthy caution and variable weather conditions looming. Burtin had his hands full with an aggressive battle near the end of the 70-minute race to bring home the fifth place finish. Snowfall came shortly after the conclusion of the race.

“We came out of this weekend with a few bumps and scrapes but a late race pass helped land us the top five finish,” said Claudio Burtin, team owner and driver. “There was all sorts of action happening here from new track records to snow flurries. The team handled the elements with a solid effort and we will have to keep digging to catch up with Ruman and that No. 23 car!”

Momentum has been on the team’s side after a podium at Sebring earlier in the year and now a top five finish. Burtin Racing and the No. 7 GoShare Corvette currently sit fourth in the championship point standings leaving Watkins Glen.

The Motor City 100 in Detroit will be the next stop for Burtin Racing and the GoShare Corvette. June 4 and 5 is set for Trans Am to compete in a special invitational double-header race weekend as part of the Indy Grand Prix of Detroit.
