Limited number of cars brave wet surface at Road America for practice

Ernie Francis, Jr., sets pace in the rain

In the midst of constant rain and plenty of water on the course at Road America, seven members of the Trans Am field participated in the second practice of the race weekend, feeling out the course in the rain.

Ernie Francis, Jr., in the #9 Breathless Performance Chevrolet Camaro, set the fast lap for the wet session with a 2:53.734, far off his fast lap of yesterday’s session.

Also choosing to participate were Rich Jones, Thomas Ellis, Tom Sheehan, Bob Stretch, Jerry Greene and Tim Gray, all of whom, but Greene, put in laps over the three minute mark.

There were plenty of slips and slides throughout the session, with multiple cars falling victim to the wet conditions, going on and off course, but all managed to continue.

Trans Am will take to the track again this afternoon for hopefully a far dryer qualifying session at 4:30 p.m. CDT to determine the order for tomorrow’s Trans Am race, Round 6 of the 2014 Trans Am Championship, The VP Small Engine Fuels 100 Miles of Madness.

Keep up with updates throughout the weekend at www.gotransam.com, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/gotransam and on Twitter at @GoTransAm.
