Trans Am and Five Star unveil new Mustang and Camaro bodywork for TA2

Five Star RaceCar Bodies becomes exclusive body provider for TA2 class

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. [December 10, 2015] – The Trans Am Race Company and Five Star RaceCar Bodies have officially unveiled the next generation of bodywork for the Trans Am Series’ TA2 class with the 2016 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro set to make their debut in the 2016 Trans Am Championship, the 50th Anniversary of the Trans Am Series.

The new bodies are the result of a recent partnership between the two entities, making Wisconsin-based Five Star the exclusive body provider for the TA2 class.

“In TA2 we have one of the hottest racing properties in the world,” said John Clagett, President of The Trans Am Race Company. “With Five Star I’m now proud to say Trans Am has taken a major step towards securing the class’s future through a partnership with one of the best race car bodywork providers in the world.”

The initial product of the partnership is already complete, with the new TA2 Ford Mustang body making its first public appearance on Thursday December 10, at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, while the Chevrolet Camaro is in the final stages of prep.

“We’re extremely excited about this partnership with Trans Am,” said Carl Schultz, President of Five Star. “It’s safe to say, this class and all of Trans Am have taken the racing community by storm. At Five Star, we’ve worked diligently to design and create bodies that are true to the look and spirit of the cars that have captured the enthusiasm of generations. At the same time, we strove to build a product of immense quality—we’re proud to say we feel we’ve accomplished both of our goals with both the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.”

“We’re thrilled with the result of Five Star’s hard work,” said Clagett. “Outside of the platform, the appearance of TA2 cars has been a huge factor in the class’s success. In Five Star we have a world-renowned body provider with the resources to tackle the annual model year updates and the expertise to assure that every body will have a fit and trim of the utmost quality. We want fans to see a TA2 car and immediately relate to what they see every day, or even have in their own garage—Five Star’s product, these cars, they not only meet those expectations, but surpass them.”

In addition to the new design for the 2016 season, the new bodies will feature several key advances over their older counterparts. Using quality materials and state of the art construction techniques both the Camaro and Mustang are lighter than their predecessors yet are substantially stronger and more durable.

The Series and Five Star expect the bodies be more resistant to regular wear and tear over the course of the season, with the end goal of reducing a team’s net annual bodywork expense. The Series also confirms that the fit and trim of the new bodies is vastly superior to the older counterparts, reducing install time and easing any necessary repairs.

“We are very excited to release the 2016 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro to a new and growing racing division,” said Schultz. “This has been a positive experience working with all involved, thanks to the great participation from the Series and car builders; we are proud to offer TA2 competitors and teams two new bodies that hopefully exceed everybody’s expectations.”

Trans Am’s two primary TA2 chassis builders, Mike Cope Race Cars and Howe Racing Enterprises, will serve as distributers for the new bodies in advance of the 2016 Trans Am Season.
