Sheehan On The Go For Mid-Ohio A Track He Loves
August 7, 2019
Bow, NH - August 7, 2019 - There is no let up to the fierce competition that characterizes TA2 racing this week, with the teams heading straight from the intensity and pressure of Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the big field that awaits at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Round 8 of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship TA2 Class is billed as First Energy presents the Muscle Car Challenge and there can be no doubt whatsoever that the race will live up to its name.
Indianapolis proved bittersweet for Tom Sheehan in the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang. Mechanical failure ended his race at the Brickyard prematurely but not before he had shown himself to be a top tier driver. The Damon Racing team would have been thrilled with the performance of the car, if not the final result and everyone associated with the New Hampshire based outfit will be doubly keen to put right the wrongs of last weekend.
But there's no looking back in motor racing and now the team moves on in the hunt for points. Tom himself was very much upbeat when he spoke earlier in the week, "Mid Ohio? I love the track. It’s the return to a pinnacle for me. I was hurting this time last year but was determined to race. It was a grueling race for me physically but it gave me a lot of confidence in my convictions. I love to compete there. Returning this year I have never been hungrier in my career. Exiting Indy, I could see the mental torment for the entire team but I don't let it bother me - the weight of the result is not there. I am embracing the adversity of racing! I am focused and hungry. I think Mid-Ohio is a great opportunity for Damon Racing."
Tom pulled no punches when talking about the next phase of the season when he added, "We're in the middle of a tough season. We are at that edgy point and something’s going to erupt! I am ready to do my job. All the elements are there for a break, good or bad and we will be fighting for our spot."
Alluding to the huge field in the TA2 Class at Mid Ohio Tom went on to say, "With 33 cars, it's going to be a war! Mid-Ohio is tough, slick and narrow. It’s going to take some controlled aggression to do well. You have to keep the emotions in check and drive a masterpiece. I love the stage that’s set."
That stage is certainly set for a terrific weekend of action on the track. The TA2 Class will get their first taste of the asphalt with testing sessions at 8:35 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. on Thursday morning before official practice that same afternoon at 3:20 p.m. and again at 10:15 a.m. the following morning, August 9. The scramble for the grid is at 5:05 p.m. Friday afternoon with the feature race, the First Energy Muscle Car Challenge over 100-miles of the circuit at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 10.
