Ruman Takes 4th at COTA – Heads to Daytona for Trans Am Finale
November 7, 2018
Daytona Beach, FL – Amy Ruman completed her 100th Trans Am start this past weekend in her No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Texas and took fourth place for the second year in a row.
Official qualifying was canceled on Saturday evening for the TA/3/4 classes. Officials for the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli opted to change the qualifying sessions to a single unofficial practice for all classes following a near hour-long delay in the event’s schedule due to track cleanup from other sessions. Trans Am cited the inability to provide a fair and appropriate period of time for all competitors to qualify, safety concerns due to impending sunset, and an uncertain session start time as factors in their decision. The grid for the multi-class Trans Am 100 was set by times from the weekend’s one official practice session held earlier on Saturday per the Trans Am Rule Book, TARB Article 6.2.8
Ruman and the team had some mechanical struggles throughout the weekend which gave her limited track time and laps to work on set up and times. She had issues during the only official practice session which placed her ninth on the grid for the start of Sunday’s race. The team was able to correct the electrical issue prior to the race, which allowed Ruman to move up through the field to bring home her fifth fourth place finish this season.
“It was really a special day for all of us – to have 100 starts in Trans Am is quite an accomplishment! It was especially fun to share it with everyone at the track, my family, the crew, the McNichols family, the Trans Am family, and the fans! I was really digging and trying to make my way up to a podium finish, but we fell a tick short. I’m excided to wrap up the season this weekend in Daytona – a track where I’ve had much success and three victories!” remarked Ruman.
The 2018 season of the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will come to a close this weekend at the world-famous Daytona International Speedway. Ruman remains fifth in the Championship points standings, just one point behind fourth place David Pintaric and fifteen points behind third place Chris Dyson. With first and second places out of reach, the former two-time Champion can still secure a third or fourth place overall finish this weekend at Daytona.
Forty-eight competitors are entered across all classes for the event with sixteen running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Wednesday thru Saturday. All Trans Am classes – TA/2/3/4 will be running together this weekend and will have one race with combined classes on Saturday, November 10th at 10:40am, 103.24-miles, 29-laps – all times listed are EDT.
