Drissi beats out Pickett to top charts in windswept practice at Auto Club

Justin and Joe Napoleon pace TA2, Brinkop leads TA3

FONTANA, Calif. [April 29, 2017] – Past Trans Am champions Tomy Drissi and Greg Pickett battled back and forth in today’s practice session at Auto Club Speedway, dealing with 20-plus mile per hour winds as Round 2 of the 2017 Trans Am West Coast Championship presented by Pirelli continued.

Drissi, a Los Angeles native in the No. 8 Arthritis Foundation Chevrolet Corvette, would eventually outdo Pickett, turning a 1:36.391 lap.  Drissi led yesterday’s practice session with a 1:34.374 under much calmer conditions.   Pickett’s time today was a 1:36.695, just behind Drissi, and sets up an intriguing qualifying battle come this afternoon.  So far this year, Drissi has led every session in the West Coast Championship and won the inaugural race at Willow Springs.

Third in the TA class was Richard Wall, driver of the No. 7 Welded Fixtures Chevrolet Corvette, with a time of 1:41.410; while Ken Davis, in the No. 64 Davis Stone Chevrolet Corvette, was only able to turn a single lap due to mechanical issues.

The TA2 class was led by the father-son duo of Justin and Joe Napoleon, in the No. 90 and 91 Turnkey Industries Chevrolet Camaros.  Justin turned the fast lap of the practice session for the TA2 class with a time of 1:44.431, while Joe Napoleon was just behind with a time of 1:45.195.

William Brinkop, in the No. 78 TZDesign/ Synergy Motorsport/ Essex Chevrolet Corvette, led the TA3 class handily with a time of 1:43.427, beating out Willow Springs podium finisher Oli Thordarson, in the No. 23 Alvaka Networks/ Trackspec Chevrolet Corvette, who turned a 1:45.997.

Guy Dreier, in the No. 13 Maserati Gran Turismo GT4, turned a 1:48.435 lap as the single participant in the TA4 class.

The Trans Am West Coast Championship will return to the track later today for qualifying sessions commencing at 4:25 PM PDT.
