Archer finishes 17th after Battling in top 3

TEAM RELEASE - Elkhart Lake, WI – Tommy and the Archer Brothers team took to the rainy and wet track of Road America earlier today for round 7 of 12 in the Trans Am TA2 Series. Archer, who qualified in 8th position didn’t waste any time making his way to the front of the pack - battling his way up to 2nd position within the first 5 laps. Unfortunately, Tommy’s day was cut a little short after a mechanical issue on lap 14 forced Archer to pit and crossing the finish line in 17th position.

As the green flag dropped at the start of the race, the #54 Engineered Components Company/KolarChev.com Chevrolet Camaro got a great jump on the 20-car field heading into turn 1 and immediately took advantage of a clear outside lane. Tommy, feeling comfortable with the wet track conditions, hoped to pick off a few cars in the early laps but unfortunately connected with fellow driver Gar Robinson on the first lap. The unavoidable contact didn’t prevent Tommy from continuing in the race but did bring out the first of 2 cautions throughout today’s 24 lap race. As the race went back to green, Archer continued to work through traffic and was comfortably in the 2nd position by lap 6.  “At the start of the race – our car was great and was coming off the turns really well,” says Tommy. “We were battling up front and staying within distance of the leader when heading into turn 5, I realized I was losing brake pressure. I knew I had to bring the car to pit lane where we found out that a new brake line fitting failed us.”  Archer was able to return to the track after the mechanical repair but found himself 3 laps down for the final 6 laps for the race – taking the checkered flag in 17th position. “Regardless of how we finished, the crew never gave up and put the car back together so we could finish the race running. We look forward to getting the Archer Brothers Camaro back together and headed to the next race,” exclaims Tommy.

Virginia International Raceway located in Alton, VA is the next stop on the Trans Am schedule for the Archer Brothers team with the 31 lap race starting on Saturday, September 24th at 5:05pm EST. Until then, stay connected with all of the latest news via our Archer Brothers Facebook page.
