Archer battles in Top 6 at Brainerd; comes home with a 2nd place finish

ARCHER BATTLES IN TOP 6 AT BRAINERD; COMES HOME WITH 2ND PLACE FINISH

Brainerd, MN – The Archer Brothers home town track of Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) put on quite a show for the crowd and even though the shortened, 40 lap race ended under caution after 38 laps – it concluded with a podium finish and Archer taking home a 2nd place finish.

Tommy started on the grid in the 3rd position driving the #54 Engineered Components Company/KolarChev Chevrolet Camaro and battled up front in the top 6 throughout the entire race. Archer undeniably had one of the fastest cars in many of the 13 turns at BIR and by lap 10, turned his fastest lap of the race and moved into 4th position. The top 6 cars of Robinson, Loshak, Machavern, Haley, Archer and Andretti jostled for position and Archer quickly took the 3rd spot on lap 14. With 24 laps remaining, Tommy quickly spun but kept the car on the track, only dropping a few spots to 6th position. “Everything was going as planned and I went for the brakes in turn 12 and unfortunately, couldn’t stop the back from hopping and I spun,” says Tommy.

As the top 5 cars started to stretch their lead from the rest of the field, a caution flew on lap 18 and it was just what the Archer Brothers team needed to bunch the field back together and have the leader back within Tommy’s sight. The track went back to green on lap 33; Tommy settled in 5th position and raced bumper to bumper with the other top 5 cars pushing and shoving for position. After the multi-car mishap in turn 13, Tommy came out in 2nd place behind the race winner, Gar Robinson. “I just stayed with it and remained patient. Everybody started to get loose and when we got to turn 13, there were 4 guys bumping and racing side by side. We came out of that in 2nd spot.  I drove furiously!” exclaims Archer. “I’m so happy for the team, to start our partnership with Engineered Components Company and celebrate all of the hard work with a podium finish.”

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course located in Lexington, OH will be the next stop for Tommy and the Archer Brothers team for round 6 in the 2016 Trans Am TA2 schedule, over the August 12-13 weekend. Keep up with all of the latest news and fun before the race via our Archer Brothers Facebook page.
