Damon Racing - Building Motivation for COTA
October 16, 2017
Damon Racing's weekend for Round 11 at New Jersey Motorsports Park - NJMP started off really strong. We were in top 5 for practice all weekend. Running 4th fastest time in both practices.
Going into qualifying we were confident. The No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Chevrolet Camaro was handling well and we running really great times. Qualifying would net us a starting position of 6th. We would take the green in row three on the inside.
Unfortunately, on the first lap, the driver in the No. 14 would force Tom Sheehan to go wide on exit in turn 5. The car suffered major damage that would rear its ugly head for the remainder of the race.
"I was really looking forward to the race, knowing the likelihood of being green from flag to flag was high" states Sheehan.
When the car went off in turn 5, the front splitter folded under the car which took 4-5 laps for enough material to be ground down to get the right front tire back down onto the ground.
In racing sometimes you draw the long straw, sometimes you draw the short straw. This weekend we drew the short straw . It's disappointing to have an injured car on the first lap of the race. However, we soldiered on netting a 6th place finish in the race. Currently sitting 4th place over all in points, we go onto Circuit of The Americas losing the battle at New Jersey Motorsports but with the motivation to win the war. We're only 3 points up of the No. 9 Keith Prociuk. It will be a close and fun battle until the end at Daytona International Speedway.
