Kleeman - Overcoming Adversity
October 11, 2017
Team Release - Brian Kleeman knew that Round 11 of the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli Tires at New Jersey Motorsports Park would be an uphill battle. Despite being atop the practice charts, he would have to sit out qualifying and start at the back of the TA4 field due to a penalty received at the previous event (Round 10 at VIRginia International Raceway).
“Since we wouldn’t earn any points for qualifying, I knew I had to maximize what we earned during the race. VIR proved that anything can happen and the points chase could turn quickly so I knew we had to be careful and come away with a solid result even if it meant not taking the win.”
One by one Kleeman carefully picked off his competitors and by the Lap 10 was able to move into the lead. Now, he just had to hold onto it.
“We had an issue securing the CoolSuit box so we opted not to run it because having it come lose during the race would have been disastrous. We’d rather finish second due to fatigue than last or worse because the cooler came loose” states Kleeman.
The heat took its’ toll, but despite that, Kleeman was able to hang on for the win and also earned points for most laps led and fast lap, a new TA4 track record, for D.W.W. Motorsports and Ford Performance in the No. 07 Ford Mustang Boss 302. Currently sitting only 43 points ahead of Todd Napieralski, it will be an exciting points chase to the finale at Daytona International Speedway.
