Vaughn Gittin, Jr. picks MCRE platform for Road America

MCRE team aims to maximize performance on horsepower track
CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 25, 2015) – As the Trans Am Series once more heads north to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for Round 8 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship, the Next Dimension 100, at Road America, Mike Cope Racing Enterprises (MCRE) does so with an aim for a podium repeat on what stands as one of the premier stops on the Trans Am circuit.
“We had a strong showing with a third place finish here last year,” said Mike Cope, Owner of MCRE. “Considering it was our first appearance on the track we were pleased with the result. This year we’ve learned more about the course and about the TA2 platform; and, while the competition is on a whole different leve,l our goal is to surpass that effort.”
The MCRE “Arrive and Drive” program will feature Tony Buffomante, in the No. 34 Bestline Superior Lubricants Ford Mustang, and Keith Procuik in the No. 9 MCRE prepped Chevrolet Camaro. MCRE mainstay Kevin Poitras is absent as he will be competing in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at CTMP this weekend.
“The conflict is unfortunate for Kevin, as he’s been on a hot streak lately, but all of us at MCRE will be rooting for him,” said Cope. “The two platforms are similar in more than just a few ways, and we expect Kevin take his road racing experience from TA2 and Trans Am and do very well. We’ll all be rooting for him! Still, this provides us with the opportunity to focus on both Tony’s and Keith’s rides. Tony was forced off track at Mid-Ohio but made a great recovery; with a charge into the top five and Keith suffered, our first, and what should be our last, mechanical failure of the year. They’re both in strong form and we’ll make sure they have the cars to compete.”
Multiple other MCRE built cars will be present in the paddock, highlighted by the addition of Formula Drift superstar Vaughn Gitten, Jr., who joins TA2 as a member of Loshak Racing—who have selected MCRE to help prep Gitten for his Trans Am debut.
“We went and tested with Loshak Racing and Vaughn at Palm Beach a few weeks back,” said Cope. “He took to the car immediately. While there’s plenty of adjustment on his end as a driver, when you compare our road racing to a drift competition, it’s evident that he’s a very talented driver. The natural tendency of these cars to slide a touch should benefit his style, and I’m excited to see how he does in one of our cars.”
Tony Ave, in an MCRE built Tony Ave Racing prepped Ford Mustang, and Dillon Machavern, in a MCRE built Riggins Engineering prepped Ford Mustang, will also be in attendance.
“Everyone in Trans Am knows that Tony (Ave) knows the Road America course like the back of his hand,” said Cope. “Likewise, Dillon has been strong everywhere we’ve gone this year and is now fully in the Championship hunt. We’ve seen both of them make the most of the MCRE platform this year with victories; I imagine we’ll see them thereabouts once more.”
Going into Round 8 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship, drivers sporting MCRE chassis hold four of the top 10 and six of the top 15 positions in the TA2 point standings.
